Credibility Unpacked aka Stop Trying To Nail It On The First Date

I was looking through posts on facebook recently and it’s amazing how many wealth generating, money getting, financial freedom delivering messages, packages, events and promotions there are. Total overload. It’s incredible.

And even more incredible..they’re all the same. Same promise, in the same tiny amount of time, with the same minuscule amount of effort.

SAME SAME SAME SHAME!

Ok, there’s the odd difference. Some of it is property, some of it is forex, some of it is Internet marketing.

But overall , the SAME!

It’s become real clutter.

And I’ve been guilty of it too, so it’s time for a massive change

And it’s not just facebook. Marketing clutter is a fact of life, and unlike in feng shui, you can’t just clear it all out.

I’ve been active on facebook for a short period of time but I’ve been watching, observing as much as I’ve been participating.

And my own reaction to the messages and posts has been
what I’ve paid most attention to because I know it’s a reflection of
how most people will react.

It’s all yawns-ville. I switch off, so I know other people will too.

The challenge with entering any market with another me too product or me too message is just that, you’re me too. Nothing different, nothing special, nothing which excites you or makes you go wow, gimme that!

Jumping in and saying “Come to my event; sign up for my webinar” is like taking a girl out and trying to get a shag on the first date.

It’s marketing by impatience.

And it’s costing you.

You’re missing CREDIBILITY. And in a moment I’m going to unpack credibility for you, so you can inject it into everything you do from here on in.

Credibility is trust! Credibility is attention. Credibility is believable and credibility is knowing you are bringing real tangible value.

If you want your message to penetrate into anyone’s consciousness and have them actually believe it and act on it then you have to make credibility the basis of everything you do.

Now in social media of course, its about your credibility. So how do you inject credibility into you, so not only do you believe you have it, but your marketplace believes you have it too.

When I started speaking, I modelled other speakers. Speakers who oozed credibility. They did things very differently to other more mortal speakers.

Then I noticed this same pattern in celebrities like Oprah, which make me recognize you can take these ingredients and use them in many channels, not just speaking.

So here it is CREDIBILITY UNPACKED

What gets you trusted, believed and customers for life.

1. Authority

Authority is a demonstration of your belief in yourself and what you offer. It comes across in the tone of how you speak or how you write. And it’s essential. No-one listens to someone who thinks they have a solution. They listen to someone who knows they have a solution

2. Charisma

Charisma is about being able to engage people. To hold their attention. Check out the previous posts engaging an audience.

3. Unique

Oh no, unique, the antithesis of SAME. Not like everyone else, different. Different message, different mechanism, different style, different solution!

No one remembers same. They remember uniquely different. It sticks in your mind because its unique. And to reinforce the uniqueness and the belief in the value you bring you also have to…

4. Explain the limitations of other solutions.

So, not only is your solution, product, service unique but the reason its unique is to overcome the limitations of everything else that’s on offer out there.

Tony Robbins started with NLP and then developed NAC. He tells a nice story why, which powerfully positions NLP as not good enough.

Everything else becomes the band aid approach as opposed to the permanent solution.

Tad James developed Timeline Therapy.

Robert Kiyosaki turned it all into a story with Rich Dad Poor Dad. To demonstrate the limitations of a “normal” education.

5. Bond

You have to bond with the people you want to impact, who will become your clients and customers. It’s easier face to face, but what will create a bond is your voice. And you can record that!

I’ve had people at my seminars who’ve listened to me on CD before they’ve arrived and they feel as if they know me and I know them.

When you get a call in your hotel room at 4 am with someone excitedly telling saying “hey, Paul, it’s me , I’m here”. When you’ve never met them or even have a clue who they are, you know you’ve bonded in advance.

6. Care about their success.

Not just care within yourself but demonstrate you care. Give them value before you ask for any money. This not only demonstrates your ‘Values’ but it also demonstrates your credibility by the impact of the material you give away.

7. Easy to understand

Break the complex into simple steps. Use the words and phrases your market place uses.

I was talking to someone recently over coffee who wanted to teach small business owners and solo-preneurs how powerful developing a brand can be.

I told her, the biggest challenge you’ll have is small business owners and solo-preneurs don’t use words like “Brand”, they see it as something corporate.

Redefine it, give it a word your clients and customers understand and tell what it will do for them in simple terms. Use stories.

8. Easy to apply

Ties in with the previous point. Break it into steps anyone can follow. The biggest “want” of the wealth information market is a road map, a step by step fool proof recipe.

When I built an NLP business I used techniques from memory masters to break the material down so it could be easily understood and immediately applied. I do the same now.

10. Vulnerability

Show your human side. It’s hard to relate to Clarke Kent, that’s why they built a weakness into his character..kryptonite.

We all make mistakes, so share them and then share how you turned the mistake around. That’s what will make you an expert real people want to listen to.

11. Inspire

My goal when I speak is to Inspire, Focus and Mobilize. What I believe drives my ability to inspire is my absolute certainty that you or anyone else can live the life you desire.

There are no limits. No matter what the challenge there is always a way. And I hold in my mind a bigger vision for you , that you probably hold for yourself. I would suggest you find a way to do the same for your market place.

As our culture has become overloaded with marketing messages, credibility has become a massive constraint to transacting any business. You can’t ignore it, you can’t go around it, so don’t try. Just Leverage It.

And remember…

Paul, I love this. It’s so true! You’ve broken the elements down nice and consisely.
There are so many different courses out there how do we differentiate?
You’re right; credibilty and trust are huge factors.
But it’s all well and good getting knowledge. You MUST take action!
Great post.
